This is a Chinese celadon bowl with a very pale - almost white - celadon colot. The bowl might have been a kiln mistake as it is slightly out of round and not the top of the bowl is slanted and wavy. It might have been deliberate - but that would be more in the modern studio ceramics tradition.

The bowl measures 5" diameter at the to ...click for details

This is an interesting snuff bottle made of a silvery metal - we think it could be an alloy of silver, nickel and copper. The snuff is molded with a design of two high relief carp swimming amongst some water vines that could be lotus. Even the base has the typical lotus vine look to it. After it was molded, it was clearly hand chased to bring out the details of the carp, the vines and the water.

It is rare to find Japanese cloisonné pieces in a solid monochrome color with no other decorations. Here we have a lovely cardinal red cloisonné vase that is only the one color. The vase is signed on the base by a noted cloisonné artist named Hayakawa Komejiro – see Coben and Ferster book “Japanese Cloisonné” – signature number 12.

This is a simple but lovely celadon bowl with a lightly crackled glaze that is almost matte. The base and bottom rim of the foot are unglazed with the natural tan of the clay showing through. It is a circular bowl but is slightly out of round and a tiny bit lopsided. This could indicate a rural pottery.
