This is a beautiful Chinese vase made sometime after the late 17th century, Qing Dynasty. The shape is tall and faceted with a striking presence. The blue glaze is a Mazarin blue - a deep blue color, named in honor of Cardinal Mazarin, prime minister of France, 1643-1661. It is similar to a cobalt blue but still has its own distinctive color.

This is a fine Ming dynasty celadon deep dish with a well executed impressed design of a small boy with flowers. The celadon is a particularly pretty blue/green color. We date it to the mid to late Ming dynasty, circa 1450s – 1500s. The piece measures 4 3/8” diameter and is 2 ¾” deep. It is in very good condition with one small chip on the rim – see photo – and normal usage light scratches in the bottom of the bowl. One tiny firing bubble of brown grit in the interior.

This is a fine example of top quality Hirado ware. It is a joined double candlestick holder with two young boys (karako) holding up cups that serve as the holders for the two candles. This is a particularly fine piece of Hirado in that the eyes of the karako are unglazed – a technique used in the top of the line Hirado okimono. There are highlights of Hirado blue – the hair on the boys – small butterflies on the cups – and the boys’ slippers. It is clear from the inside of the bowl candleholders ...click for details

This is a Chinese celadon glazed bowl with three spurs in cavetto. (Spur marks are caused by the practice of separating items to be fired in the kiln with small pyramids of clay to cause the heat to distribute evenly). The medium celadon green/tan glaze has a crackle finish. The bowl measures 6” diameter and is 2 ¼” deep. It is simply decorated with a couple of incised circles in the bottom of the bowl. The foot and base are unglazed and the base rim show signs of usage. It is in excellent condit ...click for details

This superbly painted Chinese soft past porcelain dish dates from the 1750s – Qianlong period, early Qing dynasty. It has a deftly drawn and delicate design of a rocky island or peninsula that has water on three of the sides. A house sits on the shoreline and a small temple is on the other side of the rocky hill. A boat is seen in the lake and a flock of birds soar high above the scene. On a distant piece of land one can see a pagoda on a hill. ...click for details

This is a small Country Ming pitcher that was probably used as an oil jar. This oil jar is from the transitional early to mid Ming period and is in the style known as kitchen Ming – or country Ming - for its lack of sophistication in execution and purity. It has an underglaze blue design on the outside loosely drawn geometric figure - circles, lines, etc. There are two flower like figures – one on each side – and these are framed with loose vines and circlets. The handle and the spout are not d ...click for details

This is a Ming style pottery figure of a male court attendant that would have been buried with the deceased to serve him in the afterlife. The attendant stands on an unglazed hexagon base with his right hand clasped to his chest. He wears a tall red hat, and the clothing is painted in red, green and beige glazes.
