This is a very fine and rare Chinese lacquered dish with a detailed design in gold under many layers of clear lacquer. The scene shows temples – scholars in a hut – a bridge over a stream – and distant mountains. The design was done it a bright copper gold color and then multiple layers if clear lacquer were applied to protect the design.

An 18th to early 19th century Chinese necklace box - donut shaped and covered with a thick layer of red cinnabar lacquer with a low relief gold decoration on the sides of two four-clawed dragons amidst the clouds. The interior of black lacquer – both sides with an incised mark – the marks match each other. Possibly the marks are maker’s marks – or they are there to ensure that the two pieces stay matched.
