This is a fine example of top quality Hirado ware. It is a joined double candlestick holder with two young boys (karako) holding up cups that serve as the holders for the two candles. This is a particularly fine piece of Hirado in that the eyes of the karako are unglazed – a technique used in the top of the line Hirado okimono. There are highlights of Hirado blue – the hair on the boys – small butterflies on the cups – and the boys’ slippers. It is clear from the inside of the bowl candleholders ...click for details

This superbly painted Chinese soft past porcelain dish dates from the 1750s – Qianlong period, early Qing dynasty. It has a deftly drawn and delicate design of a rocky island or peninsula that has water on three of the sides. A house sits on the shoreline and a small temple is on the other side of the rocky hill. A boat is seen in the lake and a flock of birds soar high above the scene. On a distant piece of land one can see a pagoda on a hill. ...click for details

This is a Chinese figure of a young boy – the type was called Ho-Ho boys and date to the mid 17th Century. The Buddhist boy is made of a type of Chinese porcelain called famille verte. We have consulted an expert on Chinese ceramics and he dated it no later than the Shunzhi period, early Qing Dynasty (1644-62). This is a particularly fine Chinese Famille Verte figure of a small boy. He stands on a square base and is depicted holding a green jar with a dark lavender top in both of his hands, He ...click for details

This is an interesting Chinese blue and white bowl with rather intricate designs in underglaze blue. We are not quite sure of its origin – the previous owner had identified it as Sawankalok – but we have been told by an expert that it is Chinese. The sides of the bowl are decorated in a design that resembles a turtle back with multiple interlocking five sided frames around circles of seven dots. The inside of the bowl has a lovely spare design of a stylized floral spray in the bottom and geometr ...click for details

A nice small blanc de chine or white porcelain figure of Kwanyin seated in the Royal Repose position. The piece has a very light creamy color to the glaze - not the normal very white associated with earlier blanc de chine pieces. It is clearly hand modeled from the indications of hand work on the inside of the figure.

This Kraak porcelain dish is from the Jindezhen porcelain center of China. The motifs used in the design can be seen in the standard reference book – “Kraak Porcelain - A Moment in the History of Trade” by Maura Rinaldi, Bamboo Publishing Ltd, London, 1989. We cannot locate the exact border in Rinaldi nor the exact same center design inside of the octagonal star. The border has alternating designs of peach branches and Buddhist symbols – the large center design is a much larger one of one o ...click for details

An extremely charming and detailed painting of five young Chinese children at play decorates this finely potted porcelain wrist wrest for the scholar's desk. One of the children even appears to be playfully pulling on his friend’s pigtail. Painted in the Famille Rose palette, this exquisite accessory to a scholars desk would make a fine accompaniment to any modern desk. We date the wrist rest to the early to late 19th century, Qing Dynasty. The piece measures 7 3/4" (19.69 cm)long x 2 ...click for details
