$850.00

An unusual pottery figure of a seated merrily smiling Gama Sennin. His always present companion, the toad, rests on his right shoulder and he holds a round ball like object in his left hand. The robes are done in a shiny glaze medium dark green color – as is a patch on the toad - the rest of the piece is not glazed. The figure measures 5 ¼” wide by 6 ¼” high by 3” deep and is in excellent condition. There is an impressed signature on the base which we have not yet had translated. We date it from ...click for details

$425.00

In interesting little small figure of a man riding atop a shi shi or temple dog. The man and the shi shi are both executed in a tan glaze with black highlights for eyes, body, base and lower part of the shi shi legs. The figure measures 3 ½” high by 2 ¾” long by 1 ¼” wide. It is in excellent condition. We have no idea why there is a small hole on top of the shi shi dog’s head – there are no other holes so it clearly would not have been a water dropper for the scholars desk. Perhaps used to allo ...click for details

$695.00

A fine octagonal shape dish as used in the tea ceremony. The dish has an underglaze cobalt blue design of a group of five flowers growing out of marsh grasses. The border is framed with running design of flowers and leaves. On the back of the plate is a loosely drawn design of rounded designs – possibly intended to be stylized sunflowers. This back design is very similar to the backs of many Kraak dishes as photographed in the classic book, “Kraak Porcelain”, Renata Rinaldi, Bamboo Publishing, 1 ...click for details

$395.00

A handsome small jarlet with ribbing on the sides in an underglaze cobalt blue and an unglazed bottom. We were told by the previous owner that is dated from the Ming dynasty, however we have no proof of this dating so will be conservative and date it from the mid to late 19th century. The jarlet measures 1 ¼” high and is 2” in diameter. It has a crackle finish to the glaze – the rim and the base are unglazed and the base has some remnants of kiln grit and a portion of an old collectors label. T ...click for details

Another lovely example of a Southern Song Hares Fur tea bowl – purchased a number of years ago from Zacke Antiques of Austria. The piece has a luxurious dark black glaze with rust streaks going down the sides of the interior and exterior. At the top rim the glaze is a light cocoa colored band and the streaks radiate downward from there. The glaze on the outside thins as the cup is tilted resulting in thick drips before reaching the unglazed base of the cup. The interior is similarly glazed exce ...click for details
