It is mounted on a custom wooden stand - probably rosewood. We believe the stone to be sandstone. The head is in excellent condition – a tiny frit on the bottom lobe of the right ear is the only thing we could find. The head is mounted on a plexi glass stand and measures 4 1/2" high by 3" deep by 2 1/2" wide - with the stand the piece measures 5 3/8" high. It is in excellent condition with no chips or restorations. There are traces of red gesso coloring in the folds.

Gilded Wood Carving Guanyin - 19th Cty Catalogue: Antiques: Regional Art: Asian: Chinese: Sculpture: Pre 1900   item# 18612  click for details Ichiban Japanese and Oriental Antiques 203.272.7392 $325.00  A striking carved gilded wooden figure of a seated Guanyin - shown seated on a rocky outcropping in the position of royal repose. This dramatic piece measures 7" tall and is 6" wide x 4" deep. I estimate it dating from the early 19th to late 19th century - very good condition - only an age crack at the lower base at the rear - some rubbing to the gilding as would be expected.
