SOLD - $495.00

This striking wooden carving clearly has some real age to it. We date it to sometime between the Wanli period (1573-1619) to Qianlong period (1736-1795). As can be readily seen from the photos the wooden carving of a fierce looking guard has had plenty of wear – much of the gesso and paint has worn off – the hands are missing and the face, toes and top knot have all been re-glued at some time in the far distant past. Yet it still has a dynamic appearance that is quite appealing – and it still s ...click for details

$750.00

This handsome stone carving of the head of a lohan dates from the middle of the 18th to the early 18th century. It is mounted on a custom wooden stand - probably rosewood. We believe the stone to be sandstone. The head is in excellent condition – a tiny frit on the bottom lobe of the right ear is the only thing we could find. The carving is beautiful with the face of the lohan showing great wisdom and serenity. The head measures 2 Ό” high by 1 ½” deep by 1 Ό” wide. As mounted on its stand, it is ...click for details

This is a superb marble carving of two Buddhist figures standing side by side – probably two acolytes. The carving measures 6” high by 6 5/8” wide and is 2 Ό” deep. The carving is loosely mounted on a custom made acrylic stand with padding that follows the contours of the base of the carving. The figures are in very good condition with no chips, cracks or restorations to the faces. The faces are the main feature of the figures as the bodies are simple outlined relief forms. There is an old colle ...click for details

This is a dramatic wooden carving of the Chinese Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, Guanyin. The figure measures 12” high by 5” wide by 2 ½’ deep and is in generally good condition for an older wooden piece. This is a wonderful provincial wooden carving of the mythical creature known as the Qilin. The piece is mounted on a rectangular base with a bit of geometric design carved on it. The piece measures 28" tall - is 14 1/2" long - and is 7 1/4" wide

$325.00

A striking carved gilded wooden figure of a seated Guanyin - shown seated on a rocky outcropping in the position of royal repose. This dramatic piece measures 7" tall and is 6" wide x 4" deep. I estimate it dating from the early 19th to late 19th century - very good condition - only an age crack at the lower base at the rear - some rubbing to the gilding as would be expected.
