A rare dendrifical chalcedony snuff bottle – also known as “macaroni agate” or “macaroni quartz”. That unusual material is characterized by the unusual "tubes" caught in the milky agate material. It almost looks like lichen was petrified in the agate. The bottle is in the rounded oval shape – slightly flattened – and stands on a well defined raised oval foot. This exceptional snuff stands 2 5/8" tall by 1 3/4" at the waist by 1" thick. It is topped with a snowflake obsid ...click for details

A lovely moss agate snuff bottle in a rounded flatted shape on a flat oval base. Measures 2 1/6" high exclusive of the stooper and is 2" wide by 1" thick. The stopper must have had a stone at one time, however it is long gone and only the remains of a cork base and silver collar are attached to the ivory spoon. This bottle is a bit of a puzzle to us - we were of the opinion originally that it is made of glass with the yellow and orange streaks added to the milky white glass body. However, in looking at the bottle through a strong light we find the kind of graininess and shadowy areas that are much more characteristic of agate bottles. A flattened ovoid single overlay snuff bottle on a fine raised oval foot. The dark mint green grainy glass ground body has a single overlay of dark red that has been expertly carved on both sides with a stylized open peony flower. The dark red against the dark mint green makes the overlay color look almost purple, however seen against a light it is clearly red. The bottle dates from the mid to late 19th century and is 2 3/16" high by 1 3/4" wide by 3/4" thick. Excellent condition ...click for details
