This is a simple country Chinese bowl from the late Ming to early Qing Dynasties, circa 1600-1750. It has a light brown celadon glaze with a crackle finish. The glaze ends short of the base - the foot and the base are unglazed.

This is an early Chinese bowl with light celadon glaze with a heavy crackle and grainy finish. The bowl has a design of two large flowers – poppys ? – and four smaller flowers – all executed in a dark underglaze cobalt blue. The design is framed by a double ring of blue and the upper rim also has two blue rings.

This is a covered round box with a design that reads VOC inside a floral wreath. The sides of the lid and the bottom have a design of red and green flowers and geometric bands. The box measures 2” high and is 3” diameter at its widest. The piece is in excellent condition. The background on which the designs are painted is a tan crackle glaze. This is a most unusual ceramic piece – the use of which we have never been able to quite determine. The ceramic globe shaped main body has a light tan crackle finish glaze. It has a bronze handle that is attached to the pottery body with two elaborate fasteners that are clearly of Chinese origin. This is a very nice little Ge style brush pot with the large black and smaller brown crackles typical of the early Chinese pottery. (# - see footnote). The small squat round pot measures 2 ½” diameter and is 1 ¼” high. The piece is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. We believe it dates from the late Qing period, circa 1875-1910.

This is a beautiful Chinese vase made sometime after the late 17th century, Qing Dynasty. The shape is tall and faceted with a striking presence. The blue glaze is a Mazarin blue - a deep blue color, named in honor of Cardinal Mazarin, prime minister of France, 1643-1661. It is similar to a cobalt blue but still has its own distinctive color.

This is a fine Ming dynasty celadon deep dish with a well executed impressed design of a small boy with flowers. The celadon is a particularly pretty blue/green color. We date it to the mid to late Ming dynasty, circa 1450s – 1500s. The piece measures 4 3/8” diameter and is 2 ¾” deep. It is in very good condition with one small chip on the rim – see photo – and normal usage light scratches in the bottom of the bowl. One tiny firing bubble of brown grit in the interior.

This is a Chinese celadon glazed bowl with three spurs in cavetto. (Spur marks are caused by the practice of separating items to be fired in the kiln with small pyramids of clay to cause the heat to distribute evenly). The medium celadon green/tan glaze has a crackle finish. The bowl measures 6” diameter and is 2 ¼” deep. This oil jar is from the transitional early to mid Ming period and is in the style known as kitchen Ming – or country Ming - for its lack of sophistication in execution and purity. Hand crafted as part of a roof ornament, this is a dramatic ceramic figure depicting a Dragon Carp with golden yellow glazing. It was used to ward off evil spirits from buildings. This piece would originally have adorned the rooftop of a Qing Dynasty dwelling.It was considered good luck to place a figure such as this on top of ones house, where it could be viewed from a considerable distance.
