This frieze fragment was once part of a much larger frieze – probably supporting different times in the life of Buddha. ( A very long superb frieze of the entire life of Buddha can be seen in the Freer Museum, Smithsonian Museum in D.C.) This large fragment measures11 ¼” long by 9 ½” high by 2 ½” thick and is made of the stone known as schist. It portrays two acolytes under a pair of arches and supported at the bottom with a row of columns. The piece is in excellent condition for an item that ...click for details

This is a fine small stucco head of Buddha mounted on a rectangular rosewood stand. The head itself measures 4” high by 2 5/8” wide by 2 5/8” deep. The stand is 2 ½” by 3 ½” by 4” high. The head is in generally good condition for a stucco item that is over 1800 years old. The nose of the Buddha has a large chip missing – the other details are intact. Even with the problem to the nose, the Buddha still has a wonderfully serene expression. We date the piece to the 2nd to 4th century AD. ...click for details

This Gandaran schist head likely represents Prince Siddhartha, the Buddha, prior to his enlightenment, which accounts for his princely garb. He is adorned with a crown that has a shell shaped emblem, as well as earrings. Typical of Gandhara sculptures of this period are the finely arched eyebrows, almond-shaped half-closed eyes, straight nose, and undulating moustache. The piece measures 6 1/2" high by 3 3/4" wide by 3 1/2" deep. It is in fine condition – it would appear that the ...click for details

A rare 2nd-4th century Gandharan terracotta head of a Bodhisattva. This terracotta head of a Bodhisattva is beautifully modeled and had very little damage. Excellent detail to the Graeco/Roman style hair and the mustache - the overall effect is one of serenity. It would appear that it was buried for centuries – probably resting on the left side of the face as that side shows some light burial degradation. You can also see the traces of ancient vegetation at the back of the head where it fell ...click for details

A very fine Gandharan head of the BUDDHA done in stucco- 6" tall x 4" wide x 5' deep (Not including the custom stand). Heavy encrustation on the back, apparently from where the piece was pried off the stupa on which it was located. This fine example of Gandharan art was obtained from one of the top antiquities dealers on the East Coast. As such, I fully believe in the authenticity of the 4th century dating. ...click for details
