$425.00

A fine early Japanese cloisonne vase with a very complicated design. It is clearly an early Meiji example because of the many tiny cloisons used to hold the ground glass in place during the firing process. The vase has two large reserves – one a picture of a flower on a blue gin bari ground. (Gin Bari is a use of foil under the glass to produce the shiny effect and was introduced at a later date – this is probably one of the earliest examples of its use). The other reserve is in standard cloison ...click for details

This is an example of the earliest Japanese cloisonnι. It is interesting because of the shape – the top of the jarlet is a rounded square – which then merges into globular shape all the way to the bottom. The design is that of many small flowers surrounded by tiny tight cloisons – then the top has a design of white cloisons that form a drape of white lappets. The jarlet measures 4” in diameter at its widest and is 2 Ύ” high. We date it to the early Meiji period, circa 1870s-1880s. ...click for details

This is a late Edo Period Iron Kama/Chanoyugama (iron pot, or kettle) for the tea ceremony. It measures 5” high and is 6” diameter at the waist. The molded decoration is made with that pure rustic look favored by connoisseurs of tea ceremony. It has a rough upper section which is separate by a narrow raised band that has a geometric design. This is a lovely Japanese cloisonne vase with a large group of flowers and green leaves. Some of the leaves look like lotus leaves to us – but the flowers do not appear to be lotus flowers. Not being a gardener, I cannot identify the flowers except to say that are quite beautiful with the dark green leaves all set over a peach pink background. The vase measures 8” high and is 3 ½” diameter at the shoulder. It is in excellent condition with no chips, hairlines or restoration. It is not signed. We ...click for details
