This is a very interesting solid bronze casting that we think might have been a hand guard on some sort of Japanese weapon. It is obviously not a tsuba (sword guard) because the opening on a tsuba is a narrow oval through which the sword extends. Is it possible that this piece could similar hand protection for some other weapon such as a halberd ? We just do not know.

A striking cast metal tray made of an alloy of bronze and copper – because of the more than normal reddish cast to the piece, we think there had to have been a larger proportion of copper to the metal. The tray depicts Raijin the Thunder God in the clouds beating his drums with two headed drum sticks in each hand from his place high above the clouds. The swirling circle of clouds at lower left would almost suggest that Raijin is stirring up a hurricane with his loud drumming. ...click for details

This is an unusually small Japanese bronze teapot with full rotating handle and a relief casting of two sky dragons encircling the body of the pot. They are surrounded by stylized clouds which leads us to the belief that it is a sky dragon. There are many various descriptions of dragons that come down from the Chinese. One such is Tianlong (Chinese; pinyin: tiānlσng; Wade-Giles: t'ien-lung; literally "heavenly dragon"), a celestial dragon that guards heavenly palaces and pulls ...click for details
