This beautiful dome shaped vase is by an important contemporary American potter whose work is in the tradition of Japanese stoneware. The piece measures 8 ½” diameter at the waist – is 3 ½” diameter at the top opening – the base is 6 Ύ” diameter – and it is 4 ½” high. It is glazed in a dramatic glossy black glaze that has hundreds of tiny light tan specks – you have to hold it close to see these very small spots. Here we have a charming print by the Japanese Sōsaku Hanga printer, Shuzo Ikeda. The print has a foreground of six white lilies on their stems. In the background on the middle left one can see two children playing outdoors. The print is framed and is signed in white ink by the artist. We purchased the print back in 1966 and had it framed in Yokohama so we can not see the edition number as it is covered by the mat. It is so well framed that we have chosen not to open it. ...click for details

This is a tall studio vase glazed in a medium matte green color. The shape is simplicity itself and is elegant in every way. It has a medium wide base – then starts tapering inward and that point is marked with three incised white lines. At that pint that are two small angular handles. The vase then climbs further up with a flare to the top rim.
