This is an interesting shape for a Mokuzuke dish - (Mokuzuke were used to serve food during a formal tea gathering) - in a shape reminiscent of a pear or a leaf. The vase measures 4 ½” high by 5” diameter at the waist and the flared top is Ύ” in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. We date it to the second half of the last century, circa 1950-1975. There is a two character mark in cobalt blue on the base. I have had the mark read by two different people ...click for details

This is a most unusual but quite handsome lacquer tray - we think it is probably Chinese in origin but cannot prove that. The design is a low relief design of a horse pulling a cart with what appears to be two passengers in it. The cart has a large fringed umbrella as a shade for the passengers. The shape of the horse and the two wheeled cart are what lead us to the conclusion that the tray is from China and probably dates to the mid 1920s to 1930s. The workmanship is excellent. The design appea ...click for details

SOLD - $150.00

A soapstone carving of a large Chinese house nestled in a grove of evergreens at the foot of some tall sheer cliffs. The details are much finer than those normally found in these popular carvings - note, for example, the detailed grill work on the windows of the house. It is obvious that this carver was quite meticulous in depicting a true to life scene. The main section is a tannish color soapstone and the entire upper section is attached to a darker soapstone base. The piece measures 6" ...click for details
