This is a handsome snuff bottle made of a material which we believe to be jasper, a form of quartz. Jasper is an opaque rock of virtually any color stemming from the mineral content of the original sediments or ash. Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patterns in the original silica rich sediment or volcanic ash. This mineral breaks with a smooth surface, and is used for ornamentation or as a gemstone. It can be highly polished and is used for vases, s ...click for details

This is a study stone for the scholars studio – made in the shape of three peaks in a distant mountain range. The stone appears to be volcanic rock - possibly a light-colored, uniformly solid rock called rhyolite. There is no fitted base for the stone – but is does stand evenly and does look very much like a distant range when looked at on a table or shelf. The piece measures 8” long by 6” high by 4” thick and is in excellent condition. Age is impossible to determine – so we will classify it as ...click for details

This is a Chinese brush pot for the scholars desk - made of a bamboo node. The piece has an carved scene of a landscape with tall mountains, a river with boats and a small village. The carving is well detailed and the patina is very good. Unfortunately there is a split in the pot that runs down one side.

There is a signature on the botto ...click for details

This is a very simple by elegant long rectangular pottery dish with a matte finish light turquoise green colored rim. The inside of the dish has a light tan glaze and even some splashes from the turquoise green rim's glazing. The base is not glazed.

There are no signatures. We date the piece to the late 19th to early 20th century, Qing ...click for details

This is a fine early to mid 20th century Peking Glass vase with an opaque milk white ground and beautiful cobalt blue flowers and butterflies in the cameo cut overlay. Earlier examples of Peking glass had more variegated glasses as the base color. The earlier pieces also showed signs of hand carving of the second layer which left the edges of the design softer. This vase has sharp edges to the overlay blue glass that has been cut away to reveal the design thereby showing that the design was cut ...click for details

Thus is a charming late Qing dynasty blanc de chine sculpture of a young girl sitting next to her dog. She holds a Sheng (The Chinese sheng (Chinese: 笙; Pinyin shēng) is a mouth-blown free reed instrument consisting essentially of vertical pipes) in her right hand. The details are quite well defined and the young girl's face is a picture of youthful innocence. The girl sits on a rocky outcrop and there is a wrapped package sitting next to her. ...click for details

$250.00

This is a very sweet small Peking glass bud vase from the mid 20th century, circa 1950s-1970s. The base glass is a milky white opaque glass - there is then an applied royal blue handle in the shape of an elongated leaf. The vase measures 6 1/8" high and is 3" diameter at its widest. A fine addition to any studio glass collection.

A nice little double gourd vase with a light purple colored glaze. It has a metal ring as a rim, which would indicate that the vase once had a taller neck. Obviously the former owner valued it enough to have the cracked part of the upper neck trimmed and then have the metal rim installed.

The vase measures 3 5/8" high and is 2" d ...click for details

This is one of the most unusual pieces we have ever had in our collection. It was purchased from a dealer here in the US who later moved to Indonesia. The piece is a single piece of a rather hard wood (hard to scratch with a razor). On the upper surface is a very intricate set of hand carved characters arranged in nine vertical columns. A thin border of Greek key designs and a stylized floral border at the top surround these columns of characters. ...click for details

A sweet Japanese pouring with a small red pouring spout - the balance of the dish is in a light crackled celadon glaze. There is an impressed design of a leaf and the shape of the dish is of a broad leaf. The underside is also glazed in the pale celadon with some glaze not applied inside the foot ring. The dish measures 6 1/4" diameter and is 1 1/4" deep. Because it is of so shallow we cannot figure out what would have been used in the dish that one could pour. We date it to the mid 2 ...click for details
