A pretty little oblong boat shaped Arita dish with a lovely lakeside scene in underglaze cobalt blue. In the lower right we see some tall trees on a peninsula with a small village of huts in the background. In the lower left we find a fisherman poling his boat and behind him a group of low foothills descending to the lake with another lakeside village. This is a cute little blue and white pitcher – possibly used as a sake pitcher – and decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a design of a large house surrounded by trees and under a full moon. The pitcher is double gourd shaped and has a raised design of a rope tied at the point where the two sections meet.

This is a striking Kutani studio plate by the well-known Hagi potter Tamura Shogetsu.The design is executed in thick overglaze enamel over a finely grained crackle white base and depicts five large gold and orange daffodils with there bright green leaves. This is a pretty little sake bottle done in a tan glaze with an overglaze of turquoise in a drip pattern. The bottle measures 5" tall and is 2 2/2" at its widest. We date it to the mid Showa period, circa 1950-1970s. It is in excellent condition. There is a two character mark on the base that has been translated as "Kotobuki" also as "Ju" - both of which mean Happiness and Long Life.

This is an interesting shape for a Mokuzuke dish - (Mokuzuke were used to serve food during a formal tea gathering) - in a shape reminiscent of a pear or a leaf. This Kutani dish is decorated in an underglaze blue with a three-petal flower and a large leaf with gradually smaller sizes. This is a handsome modern Japanese globular shaped bud vase with a tiny top. It is glazed in a soft celadon glaze in the finest tradition of Japanese simplicity. The vase measures 4 ½” high by 5” diameter at the waist and the flared top is ¾” in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. This is an Japanese blue and white oval shallow shaped bowl decorated by a transfer design of a dragon on the side of – or inside of – Fujiyama. The bowl is more of a squared end oval in shape. The dragon flies amidst several clouds – in one of which is a chip about ¼” diameter. It measures 8” long and is 5 ¾” wide by 1” deep. A fine Japanese blue and white plate with a low relief decoration of a large waterfall along the right side. In the lower part and right side of the design is a painting of leaning trees and large rocks - executed in dark cobalt blue and trees and rock in shadows. It measure 10” diameter and is 1 1/2" deep. Condition is excellent with no chips or cracks - one minuscule rim frit that occurred during the firing. We date it to the early Showa period, circa 1930-1960.
