A very fine quality early Japanese Kendi with pale green, blue, yellow, pink and red decoration in overglaze enamels. The design includes a faintly seen ho-o (phoenix) bird). The colors of the enamels are highly reminiscent of early Kakiemon pieces, however we believe this piece to be early Ko-Imari. The top rim and the end of the spout are circled in a soft silver colored metal (not tested) with a finely chased geometric rim on circle at the top and a stylized flower on the metal spout closer...

A beautiful Chinese blue and white porcelain censer or table lamp. At first we thought this piece was an incense burner - but it might well be an early form of a lamp as the base has a raised platform that looks perfect for holding a candle. We have seen many blue and white censers but never one like this where the almost the entire outer shell comes down over a short base with the raised platform seen in the photos...
This pair of Japanese Arita tea bowls with covers dates to about 1800. The polychrome
decoration depicts landscape scenes with three figures crossing a bridge. The undersides of the
lids are decorated with lotus medallions and the tops of the lids are marked. Dimensions: cups
measure 2-3/8” high with a diameter of 4-1/2”; diameter of the lids is 3-7/8”...
This is an exceptionally well carved soapstone carving of the folk character known as the three legged Toad of Liu Hai. The toad is shown standing on a stack of three Chinese coins - associated with the legend. The piece was then mounted on a beautiful burled wood stand - the glue has loosened and the toad now comes off - easily re-glued. Both the stand and the Toad are in excellent condition...

A middle Ming stone (granite?) head of a lohan in full round. The head is mounted on a plexi glass stand and measures 4 1/2" high by 3" deep by 2 1/2" wide - with the stand the piece measures 5 3/8" high. It is in excellent condition with no chips or restorations. There are traces of red gesso coloring in the folds.

This is a very striking 16th covered bowl from Northern Thailand. It has an incised design in brown glaze over a whitish glaze base. The design is that of phoenix birds - both standing and flying. The top cover and the shoulders of the bowl have a design of a band of triangular points pointing towards the center finial.
There are four carrying lugs on the sides that must have been used to string a rope to carry a number of such bowls. One wonders what it might have contained...
A very nice and rarely seen Japanese Imari water bottle with a tall skinny neck and a bulbous base. Amazingly, the bottle has its original decorated stopper - almost always these have been lost over the decades. The entire bottle and stopper are decorated with the classic Imari blue and red flowers and leaves.
The bottle measures 9" high and is 4 1/4" diameter at its widest. We date it to the early 19th century, Edo period, circa 1820s-1850s...

This is a very fine 18th – 19th century watercolor of a samurai in full armor seated on a small bench at the side of a house. We can only speculate as to what the picture portrays. Our guess is that a samurai is saying farewell to his wife as he departs for a battle somewhere.
The print has a wonderfully balanced composition. The colors are vivid and have no fading. The lady holds a piece of her kimono up to her face and covers the lower part of her face...
