Here we have a lovely Japanese incense burner (koro?). The entire piece is covered with a gorgeous design of multiple flowers in very fine detail. The previous owner purchased it from an officer who had been stationed in Japan in the early 1960s - the officer had received the Censer as a gift from a Japanese family (he was not told if it was new or old at the time). From the quality of the casting, we date it to the late Meiji to Taisho period, circa 1890 – 1925...

WAKO ITO (B. 1945) is a modern master of mezzo-tint prints Wako Ito's preferred technique is mezzo-tint and her favorite subjects are still flowers and fruit.
This is a very fine mezzo-tint in perfect condition and jewel like details. It shows a single ripe pear with an attached leaf hanging down one side. The pear is portrayed in a dark room so that the fruit is reflected on the table on which the pear sits...
This is an interesting cast metal( bronze?) of the Japanese God, Fudo seen surrounded by flames. The figure has an unusual olive green color surface as it is a matte finish with a rough surface. The sword he holds is detachable. The figure measures 6 1/4'" high by 2 1/2"wide by 1 1/2" deep. It is in excellent condition. There is an artists mark engraved on the back of the flames - it translates as "Koun".We date it to the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1925-1950...
This is an interesting small Japanese blue and white bowl with an unusual transfer design of flowers. The bowl has a small foot and measures 5 1/2"diameter at the top - 1 7/8"diameter at the base - and is 2 1/2"high. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is a small area of kiln roughage inside the footed base. We date it to the late Meiji to early Taisho period, circa 1900-1950...
This is a lovely small porcelain bud vase decorated in underglaze blue under a shiny white glaze. The design is of sprigs of bamboo leaves hanging down. It measures 6"high by 3"diameter at the waist. We date it to the Showa period, circa 1950-1970. It is in excellent condition.
This is a nice pair of mukozuke dishes from the Arita kilns. Each measures 4 1/2"diameter and stands 3/4"high at the rim. One has a design of four plum blossoms surrounded by a stylized geometric border. It has a two character that translates as "Gizan".
The second dish has a design of multiple plum blossoms amidst five different geometric designs...

This is a fine Japanese lacquer stand with a red top and sides and a black roiro lacquer bottom. The stand has a small vertical lip surrounding the top - the rim measures 1/2" high. It stands on two nicely curved legs - that makes the entire stand 2 1/2"tall. There is a minute separation where the inner bottom was adhered to the legs - mostly a very slight separation of the lacquer in these creases. We date the stand to the late Meiji toTaisho periods, circa 1900-1925...
This is a charming pair of Japanese Gosho – “palace doll”s. They look like two small brothers or friends. The first of the small dolls hold as drum and stick in his hands – he measures 3 1/8” high by 1 1/8” wide by 2 1/8” deep. The other small doll is holding a minogame doll – the minogame is the long haired tortoise that stands for longevity. This one measures 3” high by 2” wide by 1 ¾” deep...
This wacky looking pottery water-dropper is in the shape of a frog or toad. The piece has a glaze of light celadon – and the frog is accented with brown spots in several places – “Frog Warts” ?? The piece measures 5” long by 3 ½” wide by 2 ½” deep. It sits on a wooden stand that measures 4 5/8” by 4 3/8” by 1 ¼” thick. The figure is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restorations...
This is a very lovely Japanese Kutani cylindrical vase with a design of pomegranate and floral motifs. The leaves and fruit are executed in a soft underglaze blue – while the red seed and olive colored spots are painted over the glaze...
This is a handsome gourd shaped water dropper – suiteki - with extensive calligraphy on the top and on the bottom. The piece measures 6 ¾” long by 2 ¼” wide at it widest by 1 ½” thick. It is covered in a creamy crackle glaze similar to that of Satsuma ware – the top stem like end has a thick dark green glaze that is quite similar to Oribe ware. Yet the previous owner had identified it as being of Chinese origin.
We are just not sure as to origin – we lean towards it bei...
This most unusual covered box is molded into a clam shell type shape – the top cover and the base each have three gentle curves that fit together like a clam shell. The entire piece (except for the base) is glazed in a gorgeous greenish blue/ aquamarine color that is iridescent. It almost appears to be enamel. The glaze is very carefully controlled to end just short of the bottom of the box – a glazing technique that calls for great virtuosity on the part of the potter.
