Japanese Antiques by Ichiban Oriental and Asian Art
Starting in 2008 we began to start phasing out our business as we approached the time to retire. Since that time we have sold over 3500 items We had every confidence that we would be able to complete our closing down within two years. However we find that we are still left with 500 plus items to sell.So we are now taking more action - All items in our catalog priced at $250 or lower are now on sale at a discount of 50 % from the Listed Price. And all items priced above $250 are now on sale at a 45% discount. (The only exceptions to these discounts are the very few items listed as "Please Inquire"). At these prices we do ask that buyers pay the shipping and insurance. Many thanks for your patronage all these years.

This is a lovely Japanese cloisonne vase with a large group of flowers and green leaves. Some of the leaves look like lotus leaves to us – but the flowers do not appear to be lotus flowers. Not being a gardener, I cannot identify the flowers except to say that are quite beautiful with the dark green leaves all set over a peach pink background. The vase measures 8” high and is 3 ½” diameter at the shoulder. It is in excellent condition with no chips, hairlines or restoration...

A fine Japanese cloisonne musen shippo (wireless cloisonne) vase dating from the mid to late Meiji Period, circa 1880-1910, the Golden Age of Japanese cloisonne. This lovely vase has a soft pink ground against which is a design of irises and their leaves - one white iris is already in full bloom and the purple iris is just beginning to open. The vase measures 5 1/4" high and is 2 7/8" diameter at the shoulder, 1 3/4" diameter at the foot...

A striking dark cobalt blue - almost midnight blue - ground standard cloisonne vase with three superbly detailed birds as the design. The three pigeons and the two flowers with leaves all appear to be outlined in silver wire - usually the mark of Ota, a master Meiji era cloisonne artist. However, it is not signed so a clear attribution cannot be made.

The vase stands 4 5/8" tall and is 2" diameter at the widest part - the top is 3/4" diameter and the base is 1" diameter...

A Japanese cloisonné tall slender bud vase with a design of a flowering bush - a tulip magnolia tree - against a navy blue ground. The tulip magnolia or Lily magnolia, is a small tree native to southwest China (Sichuan, Yunnan), but cultivated for centuries elsewhere in China and also Japan. It was first introduced to English-speaking countries from cultivated Japanese origins, and is thus also sometimes called "Japanese magnolia", though it is not native to Japan...

This is an early Meiji Japanese footed sake cup washer done all over in early Japanese cloisonne standard technique. We date it to the period of 1870-1890 as that was when these more pitted examples of Japan were the standard before they learned how to refine their pieces with high polish and large areas of open space background...

Beautiful early 20th century Japanese cloisonne vase - uses a combination of wireless and standard cloisonne to depict an egret standing in a pool of water. Note the reflection of the crane in the water done in wireless cloisonne. Excellent condition - measures 7 1/2" tall and is 4" diameter at the shoulder. Very nice blue gray ground gives a nice serene look to the piece...

This is a rather unusual shape for a Japanese cloisonne vase with its long narrow neck and it flared base with a sharp edge to the waist of the base. Because of the color combinations and shape we have an idea it might have been made for the Persian market. It dates from the early Meiji period, circa 1870s and is in excellent condition. The normal small pitting is typical of the earliest Japanese cloisonne. The vase could have been either a bud vase or an oil vase...

This is a handsome Japanese cloisonné vase with a dark black background color and a profusion of flowers – both in full blossom and in buds. The flowers are in white and pale tan – the leaves a dark green – and the stem a dark maroon color. The vase is unusual in shape as it is round at the top and base, but square for the main part of the body.

The vase measures 7” tall by 2 3/8” square in the main body and the base is 1 ½” diameter...

This cloisonné vase has a very subtle and unusual background color. It can best be described as a cross between a dove gray – fawn – and very light celadon. It is the only cloisonné item we have ever seen in this color. The vase is then highlighted with sprays of small white daisy-like with green leaves and stems. The contrast makes a lovely combination that gives this base special charm...

A fine Japanese standard cloisonné vase with a design of a crane walking next to a large bamboo stalk with many branches and leaves. This pretty vase measures 5"high by 2 5/8"diameter at the shoulder - the top is 1"diameter and the base is 1 1/4"diameter. The pink and silver tulips are done in the gin-bari technique - with vivid green leaves highlighting the flowers. The flowers are done of a dark black ground with very tight cloisons. This is indicative of the dating to the early to mid Meiji period, circa 1980s. At that time, cloisonné artists had not yet mastered the art of large areas of the design in a pure solid color....

This is a very unusual kogo in that it is the shape of the hammer(mallet)carried by Daikoku, one of the Seven Household Goods in Japan. It is further unusual because it is made of that very rare type of cloisonne know as Total Shippo- in this case, cloisonne on a Satsuma ground. The kogo measures 2 /3/4 " high by 3" diameter at waist by 4" from tips of the two handles. The top of the kogo is 2 1/2" diameter and the base is 2" diameter. The design in cloisonne is a simple but lovely one of flower...

A nice little Japanese standard cloisonne vase with a design of three white cranes flying over a hilly area covered with green trees. The piece measures 3 1/4" high and is 1 5/8" diameter at the shoulder - 3/4" diameter at the top - and 7/8" diameter at the base. It is in generally good condition - there are two connected hairlines on the back of the vase. We date it to the late Meiji period, circa 1885-1910....

Here we have a very handsome small cloisonné kogo made in a square shape with rounded corners. The kogo measures 2 5/8” diameter and is 1” thick. The design is of a butterfly amidst flowers – all against a bright turquoise ginbari vase – all within a reserve. Around the reserve is a wide band of dark maroon – then two thinner bands of colored enamel – blue semi-circles and tiny green dots.

On the base is the same dark maroon ground with very tight cloisons – highlighted ...

This is a most unusual and charming Art Deco themed cloisonne vase - circa 1925-1935. Measuring 7 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" diameter at the widest, the vase is in a very rare lime green color with a band of Egyptian Ibises on a golden ground. Two tiny dimples and a tiny flaw at the neck that one has to look for to find. There is an old collectors number engraved on the bottom rim. One of the few Art Deco cloisonne vases we have ever had.

During the roaring twenties and the early thirties, j...

A very interesting pair of great cloisonne art deco vases - the combination of ginbari and standard cloisonne is in a pattern that very much resembles a peacock feather - one of the classic art deco motifs. Both are 5" tall and 2 1/2" diameter at the waist - tapering to 1 3/8" diameter at the foot. They are both in generally fine condition with normal patina to the mounts - however, one has a 3/8" ding in the shoulder (shown clearly in Photos #4 and #9 close up. The other has no chips or problem...

This is a charming small cloisonné perfume bottle with an ivory threaded stopper. We believe it to be of Chinese origin because of the style of the cloisonné design. The design is that of tightly coiled cloisons with several different colored flowers - pink, yellow, white, red and orange. The design is executed on a ground color of pale blue enamel.

Along the sides of the bottle are three bronze loops – three per side - into which a gold chain would be threaded to make the bottle a...
