This pretty vase measures 5"high by 2 5/8"diameter at the shoulder - the top is 1"diameter and the base is 1 1/4"diameter. The pink and silver tulips are done in the gin-bari technique - with vivid green leaves highlighting the flowers. The flowers are done of a dark black ground with very tight cloisons. This is indicative of the dating to the early to mid Meiji period, circa 1980s. At that time, cloisonné artists had not yet mastered the art of large areas of the design in a pure solid color...

This cloisonné vase has a very subtle and unusual background color. It can best be described as a cross between a dove gray – fawn – and very light celadon. It is the only cloisonné item we have ever seen in this color. The vase is then highlighted with sprays of small white daisy-like with green leaves and stems. This is a handsome Japanese cloisonné vase with a dark black background color and a profusion of flowers – both in full blossom and in buds. The flowers are in white and pale tan – the leaves a dark green – and the stem a dark maroon color. The vase is unusual in shape as it is round at the top and base, but square for the main part of the body.

This fine early Japanese cloisonne round covered box (kogo) is 3" wide and 2" high. It has a lovely design of flowers and butterflies.It is in excellent condition - exterior is fine, all the gilding around the rim has worn off leaving only the copper. The rim on the bottom half has many small bends and there is a chip to the inside of the lid as shown. No mark. I date this one from the early Meiji period circa 1870's...

This is a fairly good sized Japanese mid-Showa Period soft green cloisonne vase. It has a hidden design of a band of flowers under the green outer color which starts just under the shoulder of the vase and extends downward about 4” towards the base.
