This is a charming pair of antique Japanese cloisonne miniature vases. They have an elaborate floral design on each piece; and when is placed next to the other, you can see that they are mirror images of each other. Both pieces measure 3" high and are 1/2" diameter at the top - the base is 3/4" diameter - and the widest section of each measures 1 1/4" diameter...

This is an early Meiji Japanese footed sake cup washer done all over in early Japanese cloisonne standard technique. We date it to the period of 1870-1890 as that was when these more pitted examples of Japan were the standard before they learned how to refine their pieces with high polish and large areas of open space background...

A Japanese cloisonné tall slender bud vase with a design of a flowering bush - a tulip magnolia tree - against a navy blue ground. The tulip magnolia or Lily magnolia, is a small tree native to southwest China (Sichuan, Yunnan), but cultivated for centuries elsewhere in China and also Japan. It was first introduced to English-speaking countries from cultivated Japanese origins, and is thus also sometimes called "Japanese magnolia", though it is not native to Japan...

The piece measures 3 1/4" high and is 1 5/8" diameter at the shoulder - 3/4" diameter at the top - and 7/8" diameter at the base. It is in generally good condition - there are two connected hairlines on the back of the vase...

This is a very unusual kogo in that it is the shape of the hammer(mallet)carried by Daikoku, one of the Seven Household Goods in Japan. It is further unusual because it is made of that very rare type of cloisonne know as Total Shippo- in this case, cloisonne on a Satsuma ground. The kogo measures 2 /3/4 " high by 3" diameter at waist by 4" from tips of the two handles. The top of the kogo is 2 1/2" diameter and the base is 2" diameter...

A striking dark cobalt blue - almost midnight blue - ground standard cloisonne vase with three superbly detailed birds as the design. The three pigeons and the two flowers with leaves all appear to be outlined in silver wire - usually the mark of Ota, a master Meiji era cloisonne artist. However, it is not signed so a clear attribution cannot be made.

The vase stands 4 5/8" tall and is 2" diameter at the widest part - the top is 3/4" diameter and the base is 1" diameter...

A beautiful early 20th century Japanese cloisonne vase - uses a combination of wireless and standard cloisonne to depict an egret standing in a pool of water. Note the reflection of the crane in the water done in wireless cloisonne. You can also see currents in the stream done in softer white ripples under the egret's feet. The vase is generally excellent condition - there is one tiny 1/4" smudge on the back that looks like something with blue paint rubbed against the vase...

A very interesting pair of great cloisonne art deco vases - the combination of ginbari and standard cloisonne is in a pattern that very much resembles a peacock feather - one of the classic art deco motifs. Both are 5" tall and 2 1/2" diameter at the waist - tapering to 1 3/8" diameter at the foot. They are both in generally fine condition with normal patina to the mounts - however, one has a 3/8" ding in the shoulder (shown clearly in Photos #4 and #9 close up. The other has no chips or problem...

This is a most unusual and charming Art Deco themed cloisonne vase - circa 1925-1935. Measuring 7 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" diameter at the widest, the vase is in a very rare lime green color with a band of Egyptian Ibises on a golden ground. Two tiny dimples and a tiny flaw at the neck that one has to look for to find. There is an old collectors number engraved on the bottom rim. One of the few Art Deco cloisonne vases we have ever had.

During the roaring twenties and the early thirties, j...

This is a rather unusual shape for a Japanese cloisonne vase with its long narrow neck and it flared base with a sharp edge to the waist of the base. Because of the color combinations and shape we have an idea it might have been made for the Persian market. It dates from the early Meiji period, circa 1870s and is in excellent condition. The normal small pitting is typical of the earliest Japanese cloisonne. The vase could have been either a bud vase or an oil vase. It measures 7" tall and is 5" ...

This lovely vase has a soft pink ground against which is a design of irises and their leaves - one white iris is already in full bloom and the purple iris is just beginning to open. This cloisonné vase has a very subtle and unusual background color. It can best be described as a cross between a dove gray – fawn – and very light celadon. It is the only cloisonné item we have ever seen in this color. The vase is then highlighted with sprays of small white daisy-like with green leaves and stems. The contrast makes a lovely combination that gives this base special charm.

The vase measures 6” high – top is 1 5/8” diameter – shoulder is 2 ¾” diameter a...
