A fine Japanese cloisonne musen shippo (wireless cloisonne) vase dating from the mid to late Meiji Period, circa 1880-1910, the Golden Age of Japanese cloisonne. This lovely vase has a soft pink ground against which is a design of irises and their leaves - one white iris is already in full bloom and the purple iris is just beginning to open. The vase measures 5 1/4" high and is 2 7/8" diameter at the shoulder, 1 3/4" diameter at the foot...

Late Meiji standard and gin bari cloisonne vase. Covered with iridescent primary, green and blue shades, with purple, pink, and white accents. A most unusual design in the form of four fleur de lis between two bands of green/blue ginbari dots. Not signed. It is in excellent condition - one tiny dimple that does not break the surface - no chips, cracks, dings, no enamel loss, definitely well cared for. Measures 5 1/8" tall and is 2 1/4" diameter at the shoulder...

This lovely little gin-bari (foil) cloisonné enamel vase is decorated with a large red semi-transparent chrysanthemum on a transparent turquoise-shading-to-white ground. Meiji period, ca. 1910. In the background area surrounding the finely-rendered chrysanthemum, a diaper design in a fish scale pattern impressed in the silver foil can be seen through a layer of transparent enamel that is tinted turquoise above but fades into a colorless area below...

A striking dark cobalt blue - almost midnight blue - ground standard cloisonne vase with three superbly detailed birds as the design. The three pigeons and the two flowers with leaves all appear to be outlined in silver wire - usually the mark of Ota, a master Meiji era cloissone artist; however, it is not signed so a clear attribution cannot be made. The vase stands 5" tall and is 2" diameter at the widest part. Excellent condition - one tiny ding on the rear just over 1/16" in diameter...

Beautiful early 20th century Japanese cloisonne vase - uses a combination of wireless and standard cloisonne to depict an egret standing in a pool of water. Note the reflection of the crane in the water done in wireless cloisonne. Excellent condition - measures 7 1/2" tall and is 4" diameter at the shoulder. Very nice blue gray ground gives a nice serene look to the piece...

A very interesting pair of great cloisonne art deco vases - the
combination of ginbari and standard cloissone is in a pattern that very much resembles a peacock feather - one of the classic art deco motifs. Both are 5" tall and 2 1/2" diameter at the waist - tapering to 1 3/8" diameter at the foot. They are both in generally fine condition with normal patina to the mounts - however, one has a 3/8" ding in the shoulder (shown clearly in Photo # 4)- the other has no chips or problems...

Beautiful and quite rare early Japanese cloisonne inkwell - squared shape with a flare to the bottom. Decorated with karakusa vines interspersed with stylized flowers, this lovely piece is a classic example of the earliest Japanese cloisonne circa 1870's - the beginning of the Meiji period. Original stopper still intact but the glass insert has long since disappeared. Excellent condition with no dings or hairlines. As fine an example of early Japanese cloisonne as we have had in the collection...
