A Japanese Studio Vase by Kawai Tadashi - 20th Cty.
This is a handsome studio vase by a modern Japanese potter, Kawai Tadashi, born Kyoto-1926 - ? It is beautifully decorated in overglaze enamel with multi-colored butterflies on one side and a tall branch of dark green leaves on the other side. It is signed but the impressed mark is to blurred in the firing to make it out. The vase comes with it original tomobako (signed wooden box). The vase is in excellent condition and does not appear to have ever been used. There is a pamphlet inside the box with the name of the potter and a much longer amount of Japanese writing – presumable material about the potter and his works. The vase measures 11 ½” high and is 5” diameter at its widest. We date it to the late 20th century, circa 1970s-90s.
