Meiji Pd. Japanese Celadon Boat
Early Japanese celadon porcelain boat decorated on all sides with continuous splashing waves in relief done in the classic stylized Japanese manner. Probably Hirado or Arita, circa 1880 - 1920's. Condition of this boat is Excellent, no damage, no chips, cracks, or any abrasions to the relief work. There is the tiniest kiln firing flaw, a U shaped little glaze pop which is located right atop one of the wave's little splashes, see photos. Celadon boat measures approximately 9 inches long by 4 1/2 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches high. There are photos with both a blue and white backgrounds for color comparison. This charming boat has a pleasing form, nice proportions, and is of generous scale.
