A Japanese Red Lacquer Teapot - Taisho/Showa
This handsome smell red lacquer teapot is covered on all sides and the inside with red lacquer and no designs. The only area that is not red lacquer is the bottom which is roiro black lacquer. At first we thought it might be a modern plastic piece – but, then, when we examined it more carefully with a ten power loupe – we could see the grain of the underlying wood on the bottom of the pot. So we are convinced it is a genuine lacquer piece - probably dating from the Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1925-1950.

The teapot is in excellent condition – no chips or cracks – just the normal rubbing on the bottom of the pot from usage. It measures 7 ¼” from the tip of the spout to the outside edge of the handle. The main body of the teapot measures 4 ½” diameter by 4 1/8” high.
