Late Edo Buddhist Kannon -Gilt on Wood-Shrine Figure
A beautiful full figure of the Kannon Bosatsu/Bodhisattva. In this pose/position, he would normally in his left hand be holding a Lotus stem. The wooden Bodhisattva figure is from a travel shrine. The Bodhisattva is seated on a lotus blossom on an elaborate throne and has a superb Mandala curving over the back with stylized clouds design. The left hand has early damage as the fingers are missing and the ball that would have probably been in the hand is missing. This haunting figure stands a full 14 1/2" tall and is 6 1/2" wide x 4 1/2" deep. Dates from around 1850 - 1870's. Gilding is in excellent condition with some light rubbing to the robes on the lap.
