Finest Quality Hirado Reticulated Censer
Hirado porcelain censers just do not come any better than this superb example. In fact, we just recently visited the Japanese ceramics exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the two Hirado censers they had on display did not come close to this one. This superb piece features a reticulated top with a perky shi shi on the top as a finial. The body of the censer is reticulated all over with a solid body within the reticulated outer shell. Two dragon handles with hanging rings complete the composition of this intricate piece. The censer measures six inches tall from the bottom of the tripod feet to the top of the finial. The piece is 6" wide measured from the ends of the handles - the main body is 4" diameter. It has a three character impressed signature that we could not capture in a photo. Very good condition - there appears to have been some restoration to the lid which can be seen in the closeup photo. Dates from mid to late Meiji, circa 1890-1905. A masterpiece of Hirado porcelain !
