Powerful Scholars Rootwood Brushpot - Qing
This is one of the largest rootwood brushpots we have ever had - a truly powerful and fine example of the genre. This brushpot measures 8" high and is 9" wide x 5 1/2" wide at the top and 7 1/2" wide x 5" wide at the base. Excellent condition with no cracks or restorations anywhere - soft warm patina - the base is solid as the pot was carved from a single piece of highly burled wood. We date this piece from the mid to late 19th century. A host of beautiful lighter colored knots highlight the piece and give it a dynamic strong appearance that would grace any scholars desk.
