| A fine molded pottery figure of Daruma in a seated position staring out at the world with a very intense and rivetting look on his face. We think the piece might be Bizen pottery - however, it does not have the light tan scattering of pale spots one normally associates with Bizen. Either way, it is a well executed piece with superb presence. Measures 5 1/8" tall bu 4 3/8" wide x 3 5/8" deep. Excellent condition - there is one small old chip on the base just under the left knee of the Daruma - no restorations. From the light patina, we believe this piece dates from the late Meiji period, circa 1895-1920. | ||||||||||
