A very simple and lovely Peking glass small vase made to simulate a pale celadon nephrite jade. As Peking glass makers experimented with their craft, they delighted in coming up with formulae that could simulate various minerals such as jade, hardstones, agates, etc. This is a classic simulation of nephrite jade with slight streakiness in the interior to replicate the natural striations in jade. There is a very thin layer of whitish glass lining the interior of the neck. From the look and feel of the glass I believe this piece dates no later than the mid 19th century and, very possibly, to the 18th century. The vase measures 3 1/2" tall and is 2 1/2" diameter at the shoulder - the neck is 1" diameter and the foot is 1 1/16" diameter. Excellent condition.
