An Early Meiji Cloisonne Cabinet Vase - Dragon Design
An early Japanese cloisonne vase with a design of a fierce blue and white dragon encircling the vase. We can date this piece to the early Meiji period, circa 1870s because of the tight cells (cloisons) that are used to keep the ground in place and because there is one band of gin bari blue at the top of the vase - one of the earliest uses of the gin bari technique. The vase stands 4" tall and is 2 1/8" diameter at the widest part of the bulbous lower section. Excellent condition with no chips or hairlines.
