Japanese Kutani Sake Cup - late Meiji
A Japanese Kutani ware sake cup with a very unusual shape. The cup has three lobes and is on a small foot. The design is that of maples leaves in the Fall.It measures 2 3/4" diameter and is 1 7/8" high. The impressed mark on the base reads "Kutani Kosen" - this Kutani-ware kiln and shop has been open since 1870. Dates to the late Meiji period, circa 1890-1915. Excellent condition.
