| This is my very favorite of all the ivory pieces we have had in the collection - it is a pure work of art with extraordinary carving. The Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, is simply beautiful - she is encircled with a fierce dragon around her body. Superb detail to the costume - the dragon - the face of Kannon. The piece measures 9 1/2" high including the base and is 2 3/4" wide by 3" deep. It is in excellent condition. The figure stands on a circular base that was broken in half at some point in time and just taped together - I would probably super glue the base if I were keeping it. The base measure 3/8" thick by 4" diameter." Looking at the patina and expected fine cracks in the ivory we believe this ivory to date from the Edo period, circa 1775-1850. We have enjoyed having this in our collection for fifteen years – now that we are phasing down the business it is time for it to find a new home where it can be appreciated. | ||||||||||||||
