A Chinese Tang Dynasty Pottery Head of an Official

A handsome pottery head of a Chinese official dating to the Tang Dynasty, 618-907 AD. The official has a stern look and wears a place hat typical of the period. There are traces of old paint or gesso on the head – in reds, blacks, browns and dusty gold. The head measures 5 ¼” high by 2 ½” wide by 2 ¼” deep. It is mounted on a custom wooden stand that measures 2” high and slants down to a square base that is 3” square. The head is in remarkably fine condition for a pottery piece of this age.
