Bronze of Liu Hai and the Three Legged Toad-Ming/Qing
We date this piece to the late Ming to very early Qing Dynasty circa 1550-1725. The condition is excellent with fine patina. Liu Hai is a very important Chinese god who represents prosperity and wealth. He was a Minister and an alchemist in China in the 10th century who became friend of a three legged toad. The three legged toad is part of the Liu Hai symbol and usually accompanies him in any depiction. Pictures and symbols representing Liu Hai often show him standing on the toad and playing with gold coins within his hands. His general appearance is of happiness and friendliness. The piece is 7" high to the tip of his hand - by 2" wide by 2 1/2" deep.
