We date the Gu to the late Edo to early Meiji periods(1800-1870) . Ko Kutani is made in Arita area as Kutani piece in early Edo period. This Gu was made in the Ko Kutani style in late Edo period. On the base it has the Kaku Fuku mark of Ko Kutani which stands for Good Fortune.
A Gu was an early Chinese form – normally in bronze – that was a tall, slim wine cup with no handles and with a wide opening at the top and a base of lesser diameter - early Shang to Western Zhou, 13th century.. This simplicity of the Gu has been handed down for centuries.
