This is a cute little blue and white pitcher – possibly used as a sake pitcher – and decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a design of a large house surrounded by trees and under a full moon. The pitcher is double gourd shaped and has a raised design of a rope tied at the point where the two sections meet. The pitcher measures 4 1/3” high and is 3” diameter at the widest. It has a Kanji mark on the bottom that has been translated as " Furusato" (Home town) - " Kato Kougei"(Kato craft). We date it to the Taisho to mid Showa period, circa 1925-1960s. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. |
