An Indonesian Silver/Pewter Alloy Spoon - 18th Cty.
This is a rare 18th century spoon from Indonesia - purchased from a long time resident of that country about 15 years ago.

The spoon has a large rounded bowl - then tapers up to a man's figure in full round - his arms folded and his eyes staring forward. The end of the spoon has an animal that could be some type of toothed bird, snake, alligator or some other type mythical creature - whatever it is those sharp teeth are quite menacing.

The spoon is said to be of Dutch influence - which would be believable because this was part of the Dutch West Indian empire at the time. The spoon measures 7 3/4" long - the bowl is 1 3/4" diameter - and the body of the man is 1" in diameter. The piece is in excellent condition with fine old patina.
