A nice medium blue/green Japanese mukozuke with a somewhat dull finish. The design is molded in and consists of two bands of Greek keys and an outer band of cross hatched lines. The center is a stylized floral design. The back of the piece is undecorated - just the medium blue/green glaze. The rim of the foot is unglazed and the interior is glazed with an off white glaze - some of which has chipped off in small places. The mukozuke is in very good condition - there is one small stable hairline. We date the piece to the late Meiji to early Taisho period - circa 1900-1925 - although the wear on the foot rim could indicate an earlier date. The dish measures 4" diameter and is 7/8" deep. |
