| This is an early Japanese tan glazed pouring bowl with a short spout. The glaze is lightly crackled – whether deliberately or from age we cannot say for sure. The foot is not glazed. The bowl measures 4 ½” diameter by 1 ½” high. We are not sure of the pottery kiln from which it came – probably one of the many folk kilns in the countryside. The bowl is in very good condition with a couple of tiny rubs to the glaze and gold lacquer repairs to some small chips on the rim. The lacquer repair is quite old and was made to preserve the piece as an honored item in the home where it was kept. The previous owner dated it as being from the 16th-17th century. We will be conservative and date it to mid to late Edo period, circa 1750- 1850. | ||||||||||
