An unusually shaped Oribe dish made in the form of an elongated pear. In the left center there is a green fruit which we believe is probably a pomegranate with brown stem and small leaves. The edges have the traditional dark green heavy glaze drip hanging over the sides of the dish. The back of the dish has a very unusual pattern of chocolate brown glaze that has been lines traced deeply into the glaze by the potters finger. The foot is unglazed white. The piece measures 5 1/2" long by 4 1/4" wide by 3/4" deep. It is in excellent condition - there is a very light scratch in the interior of the bowl. We date it to the late Meiji period, circa 1885-1910. |
