This is an interestingly shaped studio bowl with a shiny dark brown glaze and a large area in the inside bottom of the bowl that is a crackled green glaze that looks like glass. The bowl has three pinched area on the sides which gives it a slightly triangular round shape. The rim of the bowl is a lighter brown – almost milk chocolate in color. The bottom of the bowl clearly shows the circular marks from the potting wheel and is a dark reddish brown glaze. The foot rim is white unglazed clay and shows the signs of usage. We date the piece to the mid 20th century, Showa period. It is not signed. It measures 5 ¾” diameter and is 2” deep. Condition is excellent. |
