This is a beautiful Chinese vase made sometime after the late 17th century, Qing Dynasty. The shape is tall and faceted with a striking presence. The blue glaze is a Mazarin blue - a deep blue color, named in honor of Cardinal Mazarin, prime minister of France, 1643-1661. It is similar to a cobalt blue but still has its own distinctive color. The vase stands 10 ¼” high and is 4 ¼” wide by 2 ¾” deep. At some time in the long distant past, the foot of the vase was broken off – but then was expertly repaired. (See the several photos of the repaired base). Despite this repair, it has a very handsome presence that would add to any collection of early Qing monochrome ceramics. |
