An Arita Blue and White Plate – Cranes and Lotus
This is a Japanese blue and white plate with a design of two cranes standing in a pool of water. Large lotus leaves and flowers emerge from the water in which they stand. Around the border of the plate is a band of squiggly blue figures that look amazingly like a long band of tadpoles.

The underside of the plate completely undecorated with a pure white porcelain glaze. The plate measures 8 ½” diameter and is 1” high at the rim. It is not signed. Condition is excellent with no chips or cracks. We date the piece to the Meiji period, circa 1880 – 1890s.
