A Five Case Inro Suite – Inro, Ojime and Netsuke – Edo
This is an Edo period five case inro with a design often seen in ceramics and lacquer – that of a flower garden surrounded by a picket fence. The design is done in gold makie lacquer and the interior joints where the cases join one another are done in nashiji(pear skin). Both the top and the bottom of the inro are done in nashiji as well. The inro has excellent patina and is in fine condition – there is one tiny 1/16” nick on the rim of the bottom case - visible in photo # 3.

The suite has a marbled glass ojime and a netsuke made of amber. The inro measures 2 ½” long by 2” wide by ¾” thick. We date it to the late Edo period, circa 1750-1825.
