An Excavated Bronze Buddha Head – 18th-19th Century
This fine bronze head of the Buddha was found in the waters off Lombok, an island just East of Bali. Fortunately the head had not been cleaned and bears all if it’s superb patina acquired from many years of submersion. It is difficult to date the piece with great accuracy – it is at least 19th century and very probably quite a bit earlier than that. The head measures just under 4” high by 3” wide and 3 1/4” deep. We believe it is of Chinese origin.
